The existing administration building on site was badly damaged due to a major failure of the footings caused by the highly reactive soils. The building was unable to be occupied by the school for a number of years and subsequently required complete demolition and reconstruction.
The first stage of the works involved relocating the electrical and communication services to an adjoining building to enable the school to be fully operational whilst the demolition and reconstruction occurred.
Following the demolition work, the new administration and staff building was constructed. The building system consisted of a structural steel frame with a suspended Bondek slab system approximately 1.5m above the ground level ensuring the new floor level will be above the future flood level. The footing system was founded on 6m deep concrete piers to avoid an issues with reactive soils.
